A Shahid Azmi Memorial Lecture was organised at Marathi Patkar Sangh CST Mumbai by Innocence Network India on 11th FEbruary the day Shahid Azmi was martyred.
Justice Parrikar Retd.Judge Bombay High Court, who was the chief guest appreciated the work done by the legal cell of the Jamiat Ulema represented by Adv Shahid Nadeem Ansari. Justice parrikar also called the ‘Bhopal encounter’ a fake one and requested all law abiding citizens to join the cause of fighting for justice.
The memorial lecture was delivered by ADvocate Shahid Nadeem who spoke about the extensive work done by the legal cell and have so far defended 800 cases and succeeded in acquiting 180 innocent persons while 82 of them are on payroll. Advocate Shahid talking about the Bhopal encounters said the Justice Pandey commission report is one sided as it contains nothing but the police version of the alleged encounters of SIMI operatives.
Shahid Azmi was also fiercely involved in defending innocent youth charged with terrorist activists and in the brief span of his shortlived career of 7 years, he was successful in getting acquital of 17 men who were falsely implicated.
It was on 11th of February in 2010, Shahid Azmi was shot to death in his office in Kurla.
Also present at the lecture were family members of Shahid Azmi and his brother Adv Khalid Azmi (Lawyer Bombay High Court) gave an update on the murcer case of Shahid Azmi. Sadly even after 9 years not a single person has been convicted. The case seems to be moving at a very slow pace with adjournments.
