Beijing : The US and South Korea will carry out joint military exercises in March, official sources informed on Friday, in a display of power that will darken the six-way talks on denuclearization in Beijing.
The Key Resolve exercise will be held March 2-7 to test the South Korean army’s capability to command operations in times of war from April 2012 on, according to a release by the US-South Korean Command.
The document sustains training will comprise several aspects of the integration of forces with troops from bases abroad, and the drills will include the participation of 27,000 US soldiers.
The Nimitz nuclear aircraft carrier, with 97 tons of displacement, 85 war planes onboard, and 5,300 crew members, will take part in the maneuvers for the first time.
The two countries also expect to execute a practical training exercise named Foal Eagle, similar to the one made last year.
The Democratic Republic of Korea has repeatedly denounced that those exercises are aimed against it, and contravene the agreements of the six-way talks in Beijing.
