Srinagar : A 14-year-old son of a police officer was killed in a grenade explosion in north Kashmir Tuesday while in another incident, two civilians sustained serious injuries in a powerful car bomb explosion in south Kashmir.
According to the police, the grenade exploded when the boy, along with his brother, was fiddling with an abandoned grenade near their house in Bandipore, 50 km from here.
Both the children suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital where one of them succumbed, said a police officer here.
In another incident, suspected guerrillas parked an explosive-laden car near the Bejibehara police station in Bejibehara town, about 45 km from here on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
The injured civilians were taken to hospital for treatment, said a senior police officer.
Security has been beefed up on the highway following the explosion.
