Dubai : The Indian mission here is making arrangements to set up special counters where Indians can submit documents related to their work permits.
This follows the announcement by the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) government Sunday of a three-month deadline to all illegal expatriate workers to regularise their work permits or face stiff penalty. The government also warned employers with severe action if they employ illegal workers.
At a press conference here Tuesday, Indian officials said the mission is setting up collection centres across the UAE to receive relevant documents from Indian nationals. These would start functioning from June 11.
The consulate has also set up a special phone line for Indian nationals who want any clarification, Khaleej Times reported.
"The Indian mission is in close touch with local authorities as well as Indian associations," India's acting Consul-General R.C. Nair said.
