New Delhi : ‘Lucky loser’ Sunitha Rao of India failed to capitalise on her second chance at the $170,000 Pattaya Women’s Open tennis as she was thrashed by Russian Ekaterina Bychkova 4-6, 4-6 in the second round.
Sunitha, who had lost in the final qualifying round but was given the entry into the main draw as a ‘lucky loser’, failed to do justice to the lifeline in the second round. She had beaten another ‘lucky loser’ Junri Namigata of Japan 6-1, 6-4 the first round.
US-based Sunitha’s outing at the doubles had ended on a sour note Wednesday as she and her Slovak partner Andreja Klepac were shown the door by Russian Rodionova sisters Anastasia and Arina 1-6, 4-6 in the first round.
