Nagpur : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday cancelled his trip to Gondia district of Maharashtra and returned to the capital from Pune following the death of eminent social worker Baba Amte.
The prime minister was scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the upcoming Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute in Birsi on the outskirts of Gondia, about 150 km from here, and also of a mega power project being set up by the Adani Group at Tiroda in the same district.
He was also scheduled to attend a function at an educational institution run by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel in his hometown Gondia.
Meanwhile, Union Energy Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Minister of State for Renewable Energy Resources Vilas Muttemwar as well as Maharashtra government ministers Satish Chaturvedi and Anees Ahmed, visited Baba Amte’s Anandvan ashram at Warora near here to offer their condolences, family sources said.
The Magsaysay award winner’s funeral will be held Sunday morning.
