Bangalore, Feb 14 (IANS) IT bellwether Wipro Infotech Wednesday signed a $50-million deal with Pantaloon Retail India Ltd for streamlining the IT operations of the retailer’s outlets across the country.
As per the five-year deal, Wipro will roll out and manage IT operations of Pantaloon’s 1,000 outlets in 53 cities and build scalability to extend the IT infrastructure to 1,500 more outlets set to come up over the next five years.
“For implementing our strategic initiatives, including expansion, we have chosen Wipro to deliver streamlined IT operations. Besides infrastructure management, the software major will provide application support services, managed security services and data centre hosting,” Pantaloon Retail Managing Director Kishore Biyani said in a statement.
To capture a larger pie of the consumer boom, Pantaloon is launching retailing formats in the value and lifestyle segments.
“We are driving innovation and leadership in the retail industry. As technology is the core in driving these objectives, we believe Wipro’s leadership in technology and service delivery will redefine the retail landscape in the Indian sub-continent.”
Wipro Infotech President Suresh Vaswani said by creating scalable and agile operations, Pantaloon’s retail business would undergo an IT transformation for delivering superior customer experience with geographical expansion across the country.
