Pakistan condemns reprinting of blasphemous cartoons in EU newspapers

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (KUNA) Pakistan Thursday strongly condemned the reprinting of blasphemous cartoons in Danish and other European Union (EU) newspapers.

We are in touch with the Danish authorities on this issue as it hurts the feelings of over one billion Muslims of the world”, said Foreign Office Spokesman Muhammad Sadiq while talking to media.

He said that Muslims were not against the freedom of expression, but, he added, certainly freedom of expression as we have said repeatedly is not a license to insult other people.
He said the publishing of such blasphemous cartoon has deeply hurt Muslims and demanded the EU to put in place some laws that would ensure that there are no such incidents and the Western media should not use freedom of expression to insult feelings of others.

At least 17 Danish newspapers reprinted the blasphemous cartoons on Wednesday. Earlier, printing of such disrespectful cartoons sparked Muslim protests across the globe and some Muslim countries banned import of goods from Danish.

Violent protests across Pakistan killed several people and caused heavy property damage.
