Kabul : The Afghan security forces have launched an operation against the Taliban insurgents and their associates in the country’s western Farah province Saturday, the interior ministry said in a statement.
Units of Afghan national army and the police backed by the US-led coalition forces have launched the operation at 6 a.m. (0130 GMT) Saturday, in the Khak-e-Safid district of the province, it said.
However, the statement did not disclose the strength of Afghan and the coalition forces involved in the new operation launched against the militants. The details of the operation would be made public once it is completed, it said.
The Farah province has seen series of militant activities including attacks on police, killing and kidnapping of government employees over the past couple of years.
Militants in their latest wave of violence in the western regions, kidnapped 21 Afghan and Pakistani labourers Feb 10, but later released in groups after the Farah provincial administration initiated a rescue mission.
