Second seeded Rebecca outplayed Joshna in the first two sets pocketing them 9-0 and 9-2, but then suddenly the Indian surprised everyone by giving up the match to her opponent complaining about a slippery court here Saturday.

The centre court here has been the subject of controversy since the championship began but the organisers were reluctant to pay any importance to the matter. However, Joshna’s mid-way pull at the semi-finals ensured that there would be no more matches on this court in the remaining championship.

Rebecca will meet Nicol David of Malaysia in the final. Nicole defeated Christina Mak of Hong Kong 9-0, 9-2, 9-0 in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, in the men’s section, Malaysia’s Ong Beg Hee will face compatriot Mohammed Azlan Iskandar in the final.

Hee prevailed over local favourites Abdullah Kh. Al-Mezayen 9-3, 9-2, 9-5 in the first semi-final, while Iskandar beat Shahid Zaman of Pakistan 9-2, 9-4, 9-6 in the other.
