Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria told IANS: “Sandeep Maindare, 29, who used to work as servant for the deceased couple, has been arrested by Unit IX of the Mumbai crime branch at Ratnagiri, 200 kilometres from here.”

The police suspect the couple might have been murdered Friday night.

Maindare has been arrested within three days of the brutal murder of Dilip Chandan Randheri, 72, and his wife Varsha, 61, in their apartment at the Garden Crest building in Santa Cruz, a northwestern suburb in Mumbai.

The police ruled out robbery as the motive behind the murder as nothing was missing.

Maria said: “From preliminary interrogation of Maindare, it seems that he had murdered his employers for being strict disciplinarians. The couple were very particular about their daily schedule and often rebuked Maindare for not abiding by the rules.”

Neeraj, who stays in Bandra and had last spoken to his parents Thursday, visited their residence Saturday when they did not respond to his telephone call. He found his parents’ charred bodies in the kitchen and immediately informed the police.

According to the investigating police officer Dilip Gaikwad: “The post mortem reports have revealed that the couple was assaulted with a blunt object which killed them and the bodies were later burnt.”

“Dilip’s body was 100 percent burnt while his wife sustained 65 percent burns,” Gaikwad said.
