Ludhiana : Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh's media advisor Bharat Inder Singh Chahal was Sunday arrested on various criminal charges including attempt to murder.
The Ludhiana police arrested Chahal and also detained his son's in-laws from a village near Ludhiana city.
They were named in a case registered by the Ludhiana police on a complaint filed by Harchand Singh, 83, a resident of Daad village near here.
Harchand Singh alleged that in 2006 Chahal and his son's in-laws had threatened to eliminate him if he did not give his land worth millions of rupees to them.
Chahal had last week obtained an order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court asking him to be given a four-day notice if he was to be arrested in a corruption case by the vigilance bureau.
However, he was arrested on criminal charges from the vigilance bureau office here where he had gone for his questioning in the corruption case.
Chahal had quietly left the country after Amarinder Singh lost the Punjab assembly polls in February. He remained in Scotland and appeared before the high court at Chandigarh last week only after bailable warrants were issued against him.
Meanwhile, Amarinder Singh's son Raninder Singh also appeared before vigilance officials here in connection with a corruption case related to allotment of work for the multi-billion Ludhiana City Centre.
The former chief minister is also an accused in the scam and was once questioned by vigilance officials.
