Patna: On Muslim issues, leaders from the main opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the Assembly had on 27th February heated exchange with members of the ruling Janata Dal (United) that is supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
When Shakeel Ahmad Khan, deputy leader of RJD in the Assembly, stood to speak on behalf of opposition leader Rabri Devi, the ruling party members objected. The speaker, however, allowed him to speak. In his speech, Khan raised several issues related to the Muslim community in the state but rather than admitting their failures on Muslim issues, the ruling party made counter allegations against RJD. The house was holding discussion on vote of thanks to governor’s address.
Attacking on the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government, Khan said the state government made several promises for welfare of the minority but only to put them in cold storage later. Khan said Nitish government cannot do anything for the minority as the BJP is part of the coalition government in the state.
He said the government was to give 10,000 rupees to matriculate students of minorities for their further education under the Mukhya Mantri Parotsahan Bhatta scheme but the scheme never saw light of the day. He said the government has also failed to implement job scheme under which 1448 youths of the minority community have to get 30,000 rupees. Nor did it implement the free coaching scheme for minority students.
When Khan criticized the government for not tabling in the house the survey conducted under Minority Welfare Commission, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stood and countered the allegation, saying that the report was neglected by the previous RJD government. He said it was his government that made public the report. The delay in the construction of the Haj Bhawan was also raised by Khan.
