Gilad told Israeli radio Thursday that Israel is holding talks with Egypt with the aim of achieving peaceful relations, in addition to requesting Egypt’s assistance in pressuring Hamas to stop violence.

“The Israeli political aim in the current stage is to stop Hamas missiles and the smuggling of weapons from Egypt to Gaza Strip,” Gilad said.

He also referred to the situation in northern Lebanon, giving an assurance that Israel does not wish to escalate the situation.
