Cairo : Egypt has lashed out at Israel’s declaration on plans to establish new settlements in the Jerusalem region.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Husam Zaki said in a statement Monday that such Israeli schemes flagrantly contradict current political dialogue between Palestinian and Israeli officials, in a bid to reach a viable settlement.
Settlements’ expansion constitutes a breach of international laws, resolutions of the United Nations and undermines efforts for establishing the aspired just peace in the region, he said.
He called upon the Quartet to seek to freeze construction of the settlements in the Palestinian territories.
