Sarajevo : The Serbian government submitted a request to President Boris Tadic to dissolve the parliament and government and to call for extraordinary elections on May 11, a release issued by the Serbian government said Tuesday.
The release said the ruling coalition headed by Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica is paralyzed due to the tension among its parties over the situation in Kosovo and the relations with the European Union (EU).
The parliament “can not execute its duties” because of the political conflicts between the parliamentary parties regarding Kosovo, it added.
It also pointed out that Kosovo will be a major issue in the next elections, admitting that Tadic’s party considers joining the EU a priority.
Meanwhile, other parties, like the national party headed by Kostunica, do not want to join the EU if that meant “losing” Kosovo, and prefer to join Russia and Belarus instead, it added.
