Khambhat (Gujarat) : A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor in Khambhat town in central Gujarat was arrested Thursday after the police recovered Rs.25,46,500 in cash from his home.
Bharat Madhavlal Khalasi’s home in Khambhat, 58 km from Anand, was searched at 2.30 a.m. by the Special Operations Group (SOG), Anand, the crime branch and the local police.
The police said he failed to give a proper account of the huge cash stored in his house.
The police also said the councillor was into the bootlegging business. His son Vipul Bharat Khalasi was also arrested along with him.
The police informed the Income Tax officials in Vadodara of the recovery of the cash.
