Bhopal : The situation in Gadarwara town of Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district is tense but normal after a police station was set on fire, the police said Tuesday.

Orders prohibiting the assembly of four or more persons were imposed in Gadarwara Monday.

Local residents, who were upset over the killing of five persons during a robbery, barged into the police station. Getting no response from the police official on duty, they set its furniture on fire.

They also damaged the lockup room and other material lying there.

“The situation was brought under control after additional force reached the spot. The police had to open fire to disperse the unruly crowd,” Superintendent of Police Narsinghpur B.K. Shrivastava told IANS.

“Subsequently, prohibitionary orders under Section 144 of the IPC were imposed and the situation is now under control but still tense,” Shrivastava said adding that the police are investigating the incident.
