Thiruvananthapuram : The top brass of the Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) began its meeting here Saturday, the first since the suspension of Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan from the party's politburo over their public row last month.
CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat and other politburo members who arrived here will supervise the meeting, which will be held here over the next three days.
The politburo will convey its decision of suspending the two top Kerala leaders to the state committee and also discuss issues related to governance and other party matters, Karat told reporters on his arrival here.
Achuthanandan and Vijayan were suspended from the politburo following their public utterances against one another last month.
This simmering difference of opinion according to the politburo has caused a lot of heartburn for the party as well as the cadres. The suspension was nothing but a warning that the party would not tolerate indiscipline even if it comes from the highest level.
The meeting is also expected to take up complaints by the Achuthanandan-led faction that some of their party leaders in Kottayam, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram districts are facing threats of being suspended from the party just because they had supported the Kerala chief minister.
Currently Vijayan's faction has complete dominance in the party structure in Kerala and it remains to be seen if the top brass would be able to iron out the differences between the two factions.
