New Delhi : A runaway murder accused who with his two associates duped four banks of Rs.80 million has been arrested, the police said Thursday.
Sunder Lal was arrested Wednesday from the Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminal when he came board a bus for Chandigarh, Haryana.
Along with two associates, Sarabjit Singh and Neelam Singh, Sunder Lal had duped four banks – ICICI, HDFC, HSBC and Citi Bank.
The police said Sarabjit Singh and Neelam Singh were arrested last year, but Sunder Lal managed to flee to Mohali.
“Sarabjit and Sunder came into contact with each other in 1995-96 when they were together in Tihar Jail. Sarabjit was jailed for an auto theft while Sunder was imprisoned for a murder case.”
After their release, the two teamed up and decided to dupe multinational banks,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh said.
The gang opened three fake companies, Russel Health System Ltd., Remsons Medical & Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and Clark Schneider Bio India Ltd.
“On the basis of these fake offices, they took loans from four banks in Connaught Place and ran away,” Singh added.
