Indore to host Indian Open TT Championship

New Delhi : Indore will host this year’s Indian Open Table Tennis Championship, an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) professional tour event from Oct 29 to Nov 2.

The inaugural Indian Open was organised in the national capital last year.

The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) Technical Committee chairman Dhanraj Choudhary told IANS Thursday: “We have decided that Indore will host this year’s Indian Open as a part of our rotation policy. Moreover, there is hardly any place available in Delhi as all the stadiums here are under renovation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.”

Choudhary also informed that India has withdrawn its bid to host the 2011 World Junior Table Tennis Championships in the ITTF Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Guangzhou, China last month.

“Apart from India, Bahrain was the other contender to host the World Junior Championships. So on the request of the Asian Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) we withdrew from the bidding process and unanimously decided to give Bahrain the chance.

“It was our goodwill gesture towards ATTF as the federation had earlier helped us in getting the 2009 Asian Championships over Kuwait,” said Choudhary.
