Raipur : A crime branch report has charged a jail superintendent and several other officials of involvement in supply of drugs, alcohol and mobile phones to prisoners at Chhattisgarh’s high profile Raipur central jail.
Official sources say that recovery of alcohol, drugs, mobile phones and knives from prisoners in a surprise raid by a crime branch squad March 2 revealed a nexus between jail officials and the inmates.
Raipur collector Vikasheel on the basis of the report submitted by the crime branch squad and district authorities Thursday recommended to the state government that jail superintendent S.K. Mishra and several other officials be suspended.
Raipur central jail is one of the most overcrowded jails of the state with 2,200 inmates, about double the capacity of 1,130.
The police have sought stringent security in the jail as about 200 Maoists are lodged here.
