Buenos Aires : Paraguayan opposition presidential candidate Fernando Lugo is ahead in the polls with 33.6 percent of vote intentions ahead of the April 20 elections, a survey revealed Friday.
The poll, carried out by First Analisis y Estudios, shows ruling Colorado Party candidate Blanca Ovelar in second place with27.4 percent of voting intentions.
She is followed by Lino Oviedo, a former army commander, with 24.6 percent.
According to the survey, 10.8 percent of voters polled have yet to make a decision on who to vote for.
Some 35 percent of those surveyed refused to state their voting intentions, while 13.4 percent said they would “not vote for any of the candidates.”
Lugo is a former Roman Catholic bishop and Ovelar a former education minister seeking to become Paraguay’s first female president.
The Colorado Party has governed the South American country for more than six decades. But the party, with a center-right stance, faces a big challenge in the upcoming presidential elections.
