Madhya Pradesh tops in job guarantee scheme implementation

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh says it has topped in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) by spending Rs.25 billion of the Rs.31 billion allotted.

“The state tops in all respects including receipt of funds under the scheme from the central government, its expenditure, creation of man days of employment and completion of works,” according to an official communiqué.

“The state received Rs.3,129.24 crore (Rs.31.29 billion) during the year 2007-08 under the scheme and Rs.2,504.52 crore (Rs.5.05 billion) have been spent so far,” the statement said.

So far, 4,141,989 families in the state have demanded employment and 4,141,826 families have been provided jobs, according to the statement.

In terms of total expenditure, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Orissa follow Madhya Pradesh.
