Government not serious about tackling inflation: BJP

New Delhi : The UPA government has failed to check price rise and is trying to “pass on the buck” by drawing the conclusion that inflation in India is part of a global phenomenon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Monday as it began a week-long country-wide agitation against rising prices.

“The BJP is of the view that the government was never serious about the problems being faced by the aam admi (common man). It never took up the issue of inflation seriously. It was hardly monitored throughout these years since it came to power,” said party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.

“We have decided to take up the matter to the streets. We have launched a campaign today and in the next 10 days there will be demonstrations, agitations in all state capitals,” he told IANS.

BJP leader L.K. Advani criticised the United Progressive Alliance government Sunday for failing to check inflation, which soared to a three-year high.

“The Congress-led UPA government’s wrong economic polices have led to spiralling of prices of essential commodities,” he told reporters at Ujjain.
