Raipur : At least seven people, including five children, were killed by lightning in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, police said Thursday.
"Lightning killed seven persons in Jashpur Nagar town late Wednesday. The deceased included two middle-aged women, three boys and two girls," Jashpur district police chief Akbar Ram Korram told IANS.
Three children also sustained minor injuries when lightning struck at two different places at Jashpur Nagar, about 500 km from here.
The injured have been admitted to a local government hospital.
Korram said heavy rains accompanied by high velocity winds have paralysed life in the entire district, a thickly forested hilly area, for the second consecutive day Thursday.
