By IANS,

Shimla : Himachal Pradesh’s tribal mountainous belt has been experiencing unseasonal snowfall sending the mercury plummeting in the hills Wednesday.

It continued to snow intermittently at several places for the second consecutive day in Lahaul & Spiti, Kinnaur and Pangi.

Officials said moderate to heavy snowfall has taken place at Keylong and Kaza in Lahaul & Spiti district and also in Bharmaur’s Pangi area in Chamba district.

Moderate to heavy snowfall has taken place in Kalpa, Chitkul and Sangla in Kinnaur district, which are under a thick blanket of snow.

Farmers in Kinnaur are worried as the unseasonal snowfall may cause damage to crops, particularly apple.

The upper reaches of the Kullu Valley, including Hanuman peak, Manali peak, Seven sisters peak, the Rohtang pass and the Hamta pass, recorded a fresh spell of heavy snowfall.

The mid and lower hills were lashed by hail and rain.

A hailstorm, along with strong winds and rain, took place in Shimla and surrounding areas.

Hail heaped up in many places in the resort town. The minimum temperature was 11.6 degrees Celsius in Shimla. Thunder continued to rumble during much of the day along with spells of hail and rain.

The weather office forecast more wet and cold weather for the hill state in the next 24 hours.
