Raipur : Chhattisgarh has agreed to supply water to the country’s largest open copper mine project in Madhya Pradesh. The Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) runs the mine.

The Chhattisgarh government has approved a proposal to provide water to the Malanjkhand Copper Project in Balaghat district to meet its water requirement in summer, a government official said.

Chhattisgarh would supply 2.07 million cusec water from its Baherakhar reservoir to the project. This will continue until HCL starts getting sufficient water from its original water source, the river Banjar, said the official.

HCL would pay Rs.9.9 million to Chhattisgarh for the water supply.
