Cop escapes attempt on life in Srinagar

Srinagar : A senior police officer escaped unhurt in two powerful hand grenade explosions in the city's downtown area Friday afternoon, police said.

According to the police, separatist guerrillas tossed two hand grenades at the escorted bulletproof car of Bashir Ahmad Khan, a superintendent of police, in the city's downtown area.

"The grenades exploded near the bullet-proof car of the officer. But no one was injured," said a senior police officer here.

Police and paramilitary officers rushed to the spot and conducted a search operation in Rainawari area.

However, no one was detained. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
