Indian firm to build hydro station in zambia

Lusaka : A multi-million dollar, 150, 000 mega watts (MW) joint venture hydro electricity power station is to be constructed in Itezhi-Tezhi, in Southern province.

Indian High Commissioner to Zambia Rivar Wallang who disclosed this to ZANIS said the hydro-power station is a joint venture between ZESCO and an Indian firm.

Mr. Wallang said feasibility studies have already been conducted adding that the undertaking which is expected to gobble over US$150 million would be completed by 2009.

He pointed out that once completed the initiative would help to mitigate the power outages being faced by the Zambian citizenry.

Mr. Wallang further said the project would create job opportunities for the local people.

And Mr. Wallang has disclosed that the steel furnace plant in Kafue will be completed before the end of the year.

He said Trade Kings the initiator of the plant, has pumped US$125 million into the setting up of the plant.
