Cairo : Arab Interim Parliament (AIP) Deputy Speaker Mustapha Al-Faqi said the upcoming visit of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to Egypt on Wednesday is part of bilateral coordination between the two countries.
In a press statement on Friday after an emergency AIP meeting, Al-Faqi said there is no power struggle between the two nations, noting that both nations complement each other in efforts relevant to unrest in Palestine, Iraq or Lebanon.
Al-Faqi, who also heads the Egyptian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, said there is an overall Saudi-Egyptian coordination and what matters is settling disputes, not the source of proposals.
As for AIP’s stance regarding Iraq’s situation, Al-Faqi the matter of opening Arab embassies in Iraq was discussed, adding that some nations rejected the step because of foreign presence while other said there are security precautions.
He noted that Egypt lost an ambassador in Iraq last year.
He explained that the meeting reached a decision to urge Arab nations to establish diplomatic ties with Iraq in accordance with each country’s circumstances.
