Jammu : Mauritius has asked Jammu University to open a branch campus in the island nation.
Vice Chancellor Amitabh Mattoo has received a letter from P. Mohadeb, executive director of Tertiary Education Commission in Mauritius, urging him to set up the campus in the Indian Ocean nation.
Jammu University is excited about the prospective project and has got down to working out details.
"This is recognition of the collective effort the university has put in all these years to reach where it is today," Mattoo said. "It is a proud moment for us all."
A three-member team of university professors recently visited Mauritius during which the subject came up.
Jammu University was the first to invite artists and intellectuals from Pakistan and to host journalists from Pakistani Kashmir. It has also set up research units for scholars to research on Pakistani Kashmir.
