An unidentified person believed to be a militant attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol, the police said here. However, the grenade exploded in a crowd of commuters and others.

The police immediately launched a hunt to nab the attacker, Senior Superintendent of Police Manohar Singh told IANS. "We are trying to gather clues. It is too early to say anything beyond this."

The authorities have been claiming that militant outfits in the mountainous district of Doda were losing local support after more than a dozen guerrillas surrendered to security forces.

"The attack (Monday) could be a message that they are still active," Manohar Singh said.
