New Delhi : ICICI Bank managing director and CEO Kundapur Vaman Kamath and Sundaram-Clayton managing director Venu Srinivasan Wednesday took charge as president and vice president respectively of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India’s leading business body.
Kamath, who started his career in 1971 with what was then ICICI, moved to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and spent several years in Southeast Asia before returning to ICICI as its CEO in 1996.
He was conferred the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian honour, in 2008 and was also named Businessman of the Year by Forbes Asia.
Kamath succeeds Bharti Airtel chief Sunil Mittal as CII president.
Srinivasan is also the chairman and managing director of TVS Motor Company Ltd, India’s third largest two-wheeler manufacturer.
He is honorary consul general in Chennai for Republic of Korea and is a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry.
CII has also appointed a new director general, Chandrajit Banerjee, who also took charge Wednesday succeeding Lt Gen S.S. Mehta.
