Jihad fires 4 rockets at Israel in revenge

Gaza : Al-Quds Brigades, Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement’s armed wing claimed responsibility on Thursday for launching four homemade rockets from northern Gaza Strip at southern Israel.

The group said in a leaflet sent to reporters that its militants fired four homemade rockets at the town of Sderot “in response to killing of an Islamic Jihad member in Rafah in southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday.”

“This blessed holy attack is part of the retaliation to the assassination of Islamic Jihad leader Awad al-Qiq in an airstrike on Wednesday,” said the leaflet. “We reiterate that resistance will continue against the occupation.”

Israel Radio reported that four homemade rockets were fired from Gaza Strip and hit the town of Sderot, adding that no Israeli casualties was reported so far.

On Wednesday, representatives of 12 Palestinian factions accepted in Cairo an Egyptian-brokered proposal of a ceasefire with Israel.

Leaders of the Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said they will not agree on a ceasefire with Israel, “but we won’t block the efforts to implement the ceasefire.”

“We don’t want to sign on a lull deal with the occupation, and we keep our right to retaliate any violation of the ceasefire,” said Ziad al-Nakhala, a senior Islamic Jihad leader.

Earlier on Thursday, an Islamic Hamas movement’s senior militant was killed in an Israeli air strike on southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah. A female child bystander was injured in the strike.
