London : The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, was honored with the AMSS 2007 Building Bridges Award. Prof. Jeremy Henzell-Thomas, on behalf of the AMSS (UK), presented the prestigious award, at a function of lecture given by him, at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, held last Monday. The OIC Chief was chosen for the award in recognition of his tireless efforts to enhance understanding and cooperation between the Muslim world and the West as well as for advocating and strengthening the ties of cooperation between Muslim countries and communities, and for his strong and dedicated support of the Alliance of Civilizations Project.
The Secretary General took the opportunity of his visit to the UK to interact with the representatives and opinion formers of the British Muslims, including Parliamentary Undersecretary Shahid Malik for the Department of International Development, Member of Parliament Sadiq Khan, board members of the humanitarian assistance organization the Muslim Aid. He met with Dr. Kim Howells, Foreign Office Minister of State and addressed a meeting of the OIC Ambassadorial Group held at the Pakistan Embassy in London. The Secretary General, in the framework of his various interactions with media during his visit to the UK, visited the London headquarters of pan Arabic daily newspapers Alsharq Al Awsat and Al Hayat.
