OIC establishes new overseas groups

By IINA,

Islamabad : The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has established its groups in Brussels, Vienna and Washington for the better level of co-ordination with the various government institutions of the respective countries and for playing an effective role on important global issues. In this context, the OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu during the course of his address to the diplomats of OIC member states based in London at a meeting held at the Pakistan High Commission recently, said the setting up of these offices has led to a significant increase of inter-action on important concerns facing the international community, APP reported.

Prof. Ihsanoglu at the onset of his speech appreciated the contributions rendered by the outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner Dr. Maleeha Lodhi for her country and described her as master diplomat and the modern face of Pakistan. He mentioned that OIC Ambassadorial Groups in New York and Geneva have been playing an effective role in coordinating positions on important issues of UN General Assembly and Human Rights Council. The OIC Secretary-General further said the OIC Group at UNESCO has also been in function for some time which has helped the two organisations to tackle socio-economic issues in the Muslim world through active assistance and co-operation.
