Chandigarh : A division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Wednesday dismissed a frivolous public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a resident of Ferozepore town and slapped a fine of Rs.10,000 on him.
The division bench headed by Justice M.S. Gill dismissed the PIL filed by Ferozepore resident Sanjeev Kumar, who had sought directions for removing a huge banyan tree standing in the middle of the road between Jagraon and Nakodar towns in Punjab.
The petitioner had alleged that the tree was obstructing one-third of road and was a traffic hazard at night.
The court dismissed the petition, saying it was frivolous complaint and imposed a penalty of Rs.10,000 on the petitioner.
