Greater Noida : Rivalry between two families turned bloody as a 22-year-old man was shot dead and two other people were critically injured in an exchange of fire between them in Greater Noida Sunday.
Superintendent of police (rural) Babu Ram said the families of Bane Singh and Sri Chand of Rustampur locality under the Rabupura police station of Greater Noida had a property dispute.
Their neighbours were attempting to broker peace between them at a meeting when Bane Singh’s family, led by his elder son Hari Shankar, who is a police constable in Delhi posted at Shahdara, opened unprovoked fire on the rival group, the police official said.
According to the complaint with the police, Hari Shankar, his younger brother, father, mother and a close relative fired at least 25 rounds, killing Sri Chand’s son Sonu on the spot and injuring Subhash and Shri Pal.
The police sent the body for post-mortem examiantion while those injured were rushed to the Ambedkar Hospital at Noida.
On the complaint of Raghuraj Singh, a criminal case under sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against five people.
The complainant named Hari Shankar, his brother Sunil, mother Ramwati, Bane Singh and Danvir Singh in the criminal case.
Ramwati was arrested while the remaining four were absconding, the police official said.
