Militant killed in Poonch

Jammu : The Indian Army late Monday evening claimed to have killed a terrorist in the border district of Poonch who was on an assignment to kill civilians in the area.

A defence spokesperson said that based on a “specific information, in a joint operation, troops of 16 Rashtriya Rifles (Sikh), and Jammu and Kashmir Police killed a militant in Katiyari Mohalla in Surankot in Poonch district” late in the evening.

The slain militant has been identified as Abu Moish of Lashkar-e-Toiba group. One AK rifle, two Chinese hand grenades, 112 rounds of ammunition, four magazines, one pocket transistor and one mobile phone were recovered from the slain militant.

“The militant was wearing army combat dress. It has been reliably learnt that he would have carried out indiscriminate firing on civilian population in the nearby villages,” the spokesman said.
