Mayawati unveils projects on first anniversary

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati announced a number of development projects in sectors like power, higher and technical education and urban development in a function organised here Tuesday, marking her one year in office.

In the power sector, Mayawati unveiled the Anpara-D (1,000 MW) thermal power project that will be set up at an investment of around Rs.53 billion and new sub-power stations of 1,210 KV capacity.

She announced the water supply projects for Agra, Kanpur and Varanasi that will cost respectively Rs.10.77 billion, Rs 2.7 billion and Rs 1.11 billion.

For upgrading higher education in the state, the chief minister ‘unveiled’ the foundation stone for the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Government colleges to be set up in Mainpuri, Kannauj and Maharajganj.

Mayawati launched the Rs.2.5 billion project to construct 24 new bridges over various rivers and also a Rs.4.53 billion project to widen important roads in the state.

She also announced that 50 new polytechnics and 250 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in various parts of the state. The new polytechnics and ITIs will be set up by public-private partnership, said Mayawati.

Mayawati also announced plans to upgrade over 278 government high-school into colleges.
