Srinagar : Two central reserve police force (CRPF) troopers were killed by militants in the upper reaches of south Kashmir’s Shopian district while four civilians were injured in a shooting incident in north Kashmir’s Rafiabad area late Tuesday night.
Police said the bodies of the two troopers, who were abducted and later killed by the militants in the forest area of Keller in Shopian district, 50 km from here, were recovered late Tuesday.
CRPF troops have been carrying out searches in the area, following specific inputs about presence of a group of separatist guerrillas.
“The two CRPF troopers were abducted during the operations and their bodies were recovered from the forest area late yesterday (Tuesday),” a senior police officer said.
In a separate incident, four civilians were injured in a shooting incident late Tuesday night at Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, 60 km from here. The locals alleged involvement of security forces in the shooting.
The police said the injured were taken to a hospital in Baramulla, where doctors referred one seriously injured person to the state’s summer capital Srinagar for specialised treatment.
Nearly 400 villagers held a protest demonstration in Rafiabad against the incident.
Senior police and civil officers tried persuading the protesters to disperse assuring action against those involved in the incident.
