Gaza : Palestinian movement Islamic Jihad on Tuesday promised that it will commit itself to Gaza ceasefire in the same degree Israel sticks to.
“We, the Islamic Jihad, stress the lull must be mutual and we will abide by it in the same degree as Israel respects it,” Khaledal-Batsh, a movement leader based in Gaza, told the press.
“As long as the enemy doesn’t breach the lull, the Islamic Jihad will not take the initiative to violate or block the calmness.” Al-Batsh was quoted as saying.
He added that the Islamic Jihad will respond to any Israeli violation in the West Bank.
Egypt proposed a six-month ceasefire in the Gaza Strip with an aim to lift the Israeli embargo and stop the military operations which increased after Hamas took over Gaza by force nearly one year ago.
A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Monday for discussions about Israel’s final response to the Egyptian offer. Al-Batsh said other Palestinian factions will go to Cairo afterwards for the same reason.
