Beijing : New Russian President Dimitri Medvedev began an official China visit Friday to foster strategic relations between the two countries.
According to observers, Medvedev, who assumed the presidency on May 7, will reiterate to Chinese President Hu Jintao the same commitments and contracts reached by his predecessor Vladimir Putin.
Hu and Putin held five meetings in 2007, corroborating the solid state of relations between the two States, which are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization established in 2001.
Medvedev’s two-day visit takes place at a very good time in economic links, with mutual trade increasing from 10.67 billion dollars in 2000 to 48.17 billion in 2007.
According to bilateral estimates, trade exchange could reach 60 billion dollars this year.
