New Lebanese President hold coordination talks with caretaker PM

Beirut : Newly-appointed Lebanese President Michel Suleiman has held talks with caretaker Prime Minister Fuad Al-Siniora on the forecast line-up of a new cabinet.

Emereging from the meeting Tuesday, Al-Siniora said the parliamentary majority would agree on the nominee to serve as the next prime minister, adding that his talks with the president dealt with admininstrative affairs.

The president has set next Wednesday as the date for parliamentary consultations in preparation for appointing a new prime minister.

Al-Siniora condemned Monday night’s celebratory gunfire shooting that followed a speech by the chief of Hezbollah, Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, on the eighth occasion of the liberation.

“We need to calm down and sooth the deep wounds,” he said, alluding to the recent crisis that was marked with street violence that claimed more than 60 lives.

At least 16 people were wounded Monday night when opposition gunmen opened fire to celebrate the speech of the leader of the opposition.
