Tehran : Iran’s parliament Wednesday elected the country’s former top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, as the new parliamentary speaker, IRNA reported.
The members of the eighth Majlis (parliament) elected Ali Larijan as the provisional speaker of the Iranian parliament, the report said.
parliament was inaugurated Tuesday with a message from the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Of the 263 votes, Larijani won 232. He had previously served as Iran’s top nuclear negotiator.
A provisional parliamentary presiding board was due to be elected Wednesday which would continue to work until the legislative body confirms all members of parliament.
