The ministry said in a statement that the Serbian Foreign Ministry “rejects this issue as Kosovo is a province and not a state and raising the flag means recognition of Kosovo as an independent state.” The Serbian Foreign Ministry had filed a complaint with the EU Parliament for raising the Kosovo flag, calling for abstention from such actions, which would lead to straining bilateral relations.

The Serbian official was surprised that the EU Parliament ignored the Greek opposition of raising the Kosovo flag, despite the fact that Greece is a member of the EU.
