Jakarta : Three Indonesian militants convicted of the October 2002 Bali bombings will be executed in Central Java province but no specified date is available, officials said Friday.
Minister of Justice and Human Rights Affairs Andi Mattalata said he has approved a request from the Attorney General’s Office to pick the Central Java town of Cilacap for the execution place.
“I have replied that we don’t mind the execution to be carried out there (Central Java),” he told reporters at his office here.
Separately, Deputy Attorney General Abdul Hakim Ritonga said the date of the execution has not been determined pending a formal notification from the Supreme Court about the trio’s last appeal.
The Supreme Court has earlier rejected their appeal and request for a judicial review.
“The date has not been determined yet because we need to complete one more procedure, namely a Supreme Court verdict,” said Ritonga.
The three — Amrozi, Ali Ghufron and Imam Samudra — were convicted in 2003 of leading roles in the nightclub bombings on the resort island and sentenced to death.
The attacks killed 202 people, mostly foreigners.
Authorities have ruled out Bali as the venue for their execution due to security concerns.
The three are currently being detained at an island prison off Java southern coast.
