The 33-year-old forward was reportedly arrested because he failed to respond to three summonses to appear before a judge to answer charges that he drove at 135 kmph in a 50-kmph zone three months ago.

Six-time French champions Lyon are currently trying to find another club for Wiltord, who does not fit into the plans of the club's new trainer, Alain Perrin, but are having trouble finding a taker because of his salary of 3 million euros a year.

Wiltord has played 92 times for France and scored 26 goals, the most important one coming in the last seconds of regulation time in France's Euro-2000 final against Italy. That strike tied the score at 1-1. France eventually won the title on a "golden goal" by striker David Trezeguet.
