Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) : Two armed criminals on the run, after snatching a purse and shooting a policeman, entered a prohibited military area in Uttar Pradesh to escape the pursuing police constables.
Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Singh said two criminals Sunday snatched a purse from a woman here and when the police tried to stop them, opened fire, grievously injuring constable Vijay Singh.
The criminals then broke into the restricted army radar centre, in Pooth locality on the outskirts of Meerut town, to hide from the police team chasing them.
A joint team of army and police nabbed one of the two snatchers and recovered a motorcycle, while the other snatcher is still absconding, the police official said.
